Continental focuses on sustainable products | Cruise Ship Interiors Expo London

Switch off, leave your cares behind, and take a break from everyday routine – for some 30 million people a year, there’s no better way than a cruise ship vacation. And the “Who’s Who” of the cruise industry all meet twice a year at the Cruise Ship Interiors Expo (CSIE) for the sole purpose of making your future stay on the high seas an even more unique experience. This year, Continental will be there as a specialist for surface solutions.

How will we travel in the future, and what materials, colors, and furnishing trends will set the stage for us? These questions will be explored at the Cruise Ship Interiors Expo (CSIE) in London on November 30 and December 1, 2022. And joining the industry this year in London for the first time will be the technology company Continental. The surface specialist’s approach: to present sustainable solutions that care for human needs and protect the environment, yet still offer convincing tactile and optical appeal at all levels.

Norbert Müller, Sales Manager responsible for the Cruise sector at Continental, is looking forward to the trade show with anticipation: “We look forward to seeing customers, partners, and friends from many different countries again and, above all, to the one-on-one conversations in person.” The pandemic left far too little of such exchange in recent years. As in all other industries, sustainability awareness is on the rise in the cruise sector, too, says this expert. And this holds true both at the product level and in the holistic design of entire ships. “Our product innovations are ideal for this: fossil raw materials are being replaced by natural and sustainable ones, CO2 emissions are being minimized along the entire value chain, and new furnishing trends and colors must be convincing not only in terms of their design, but also in terms of their durability,” notes Müller.

Continental is therefore putting its sustainable bio synthetic leather skai® Evida in its luggage for the CSIE, which is suitable for a wide range of upholstery applications thanks to its particularly abrasion-resistant and flame-retardant surface (compliant with IMO FTPC P8). It consists of more than 80% natural and renewable raw materials. The breathable upholstery fabric skai® VyP Coffee also scores points for sustainability. For this new variant utilizing laif technology, used coffee grounds are re-used as a raw material for the first time along with other recycled and natural components to produce materials. More than 65% of conventional chemical raw materials are replaced by natural and recycled ones. The third product in the assortment is the upholstery fabric skai® Parotega NF with staynu technology. This is a high-quality upholstery material with a classic leather grain that meets the stringent B1 flame retardant standard. Thanks to the innovative staynu finish, the material is highly spot-resistant and very easy to clean. This special coating seals the surface so that dirt particles don’t stick at all, or if they do, they can’t penetrate deep into the coating.

Sustainable, innovative, and forward-looking – this is how Continental will present itself not only at the CSIE, but already one day earlier, on November 29, 2022, at the Sustainable Design Summit. This forum is always held in conjunction with the show and brings together brand owners, designers and trusted suppliers from around the world to exchange ideas. An industry-leading conference program featuring keynotes, interactive breakout sessions and roundtables is considered the hallmark of the event. Continental will also be there, presenting skai® VyP Coffee in the networking area as part of the product showcase for sustainable products.

So, you definitely don’t want to miss this trade fair highlight! So take this opportunity to register for the show for free by November 29, 2022, and save yourself the £100 admission fee. We look forward to welcoming you there!
